What it’s like
A sit-down venue for comedy, magic and spoken word, geared at teens and adults rather than young kids.
This is a watch-from-your-seat venue rather than somewhere to burn off a wet afternoon. Comedy nights, magic shows and spoken word performances make up the programme, so it suits a teenager who'll actually sit through an hour of material more than a primary-age child. Doors open half an hour before the show and they scan a barcode ticket at the door.
Standard tickets run at £18.25, which isn't pocket change for a family outing, but there are concession rates for under-16s, students and a few other groups if you bring proof along. Babies of 18 months or under get in free sat on a lap rather than taking a seat, though some shows have their own age restrictions on top of the general 14-plus feel of the listings.
There are bars on site, and children aren't meant to be right next to the bar while it's serving, which is a fair rule but one to bear in mind if you're squeezing past with a young teenager in tow. Nobody under 18 can stay on the premises after 11pm either, so a late show is a school night no-no.
Parking outside is pay and display with a four-hour cap, seven days a week, and Blue Badge holders get free bays on the street. Waverley station is about a ten-minute walk if you're coming by train, and there's an accessible toilet plus companion tickets for wheelchair users who need one.

Do we need to book in advance?
Tickets are sold online with an e-ticket barcode you show at the door. There's no walk-up option mentioned, so sort it before you go.
Is it suitable for young children?
Not really the target audience here. Babies 18 months and under can sit on a lap for free, but some shows carry their own age restrictions on top of that.

Pay and display on the street outside, four-hour maximum, running most of the week. Blue Badge holders park free in the designated bays.
