What it’s like

A free local library with a proper children's section, a teen zone and a sofa corner for reading together, no booking needed.

This is a small local library rather than a big city one, and that's the point: a children's section with books for all ages plus homework collection and family support books, a Teen Zone for the older ones who've outgrown picture books, and a Read and Relax Area with sofas if you want to sit down together rather than dash round. There are Boromi bags too, which is a nice detail if you've got a child who likes a themed activity bag alongside their books.

It's free to get in and there's no booking link listed, so it's a turn-up-and-browse sort of visit rather than something you need to plan around. Being indoors and wheelchair accessible with baby change facilities on site, it's an easy one to fit in with a buggy or a toddler who needs changing halfway through.

The opening hours are worth checking against your week rather than assuming it's a daily drop-in. Monday and Thursday afternoons run 12noon to 6pm, Tuesday and Friday mornings are 10am to 2pm, and Saturday gives you a longer 10am to 4pm window. Wednesday and Sunday it's shut, so this isn't a weekend-only backup plan if Sunday's when you're free.

There's wifi too, which is handy if you want to sit in the Read and Relax Area with a laptop while the kids pick books, or catch up on digital resources like e-books and e-magazines from home using their online access.
