What it’s like

Laser tag, ten pin bowling, an Ultimate Challenges assault course and a pizza place all under one roof for a proper wet-day session.

This is the sort of place you book for a whole afternoon rather than a quick hour. The Battle for New York laser tag has its own theme running through it, the bowling alley does family lanes, and Ultimate Challenges is the bit that'll actually wear your kids out, an obstacle-style set of games booked in one, 1.5 or 2 hour slots. There's an amusement arcade for play-to-win prizes and mini golf if you want something calmer between the louder stuff.

Under 16s can do Ultimate Challenges from £17.95 for an hour, rising to £31.95 for two, and there are family-of-4 and family-of-5 rates that work out cheaper per head. Laser tag is £6.95 a game normally, £8.95 on a Fabulous Friday, and bowling starts at £6.95 for under-16s or students. None of it is cheap once you're doing two or three activities in a visit, and it's card only, so leave the cash at home.

Grip socks are needed for the jumping activities and cost £1.50 a pair if you turn up without your own, worth chucking a pair in the bag. If your child is under 9 they need an adult on their Ultimate Challenges team, which is either a nice excuse to join in or a minor faff depending on your mood that day. Booking ahead is genuinely recommended rather than a suggestion, weekends and school holidays sell out and walk-ins get turned away once that happens, so sort the slot before you leave the house.

Parking's free on site, which takes the edge off the activity prices a bit. NY Urban Pizza does food from £11.95 and salads from £5.95 if you want to eat there after, and birthday parties run as 90-minute packages with an hour of activity and half an hour in the party room, minimum group sizes of 8 to 10 depending what you pick.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Depends what you do. Ultimate Challenges is £17.95 to £31.95 for under-16s depending on length, laser tag is £6.95 a game, bowling starts at £6.95. Family rates for 4 or 5 people bring the per-head cost down.

Do we need to book ahead?

Yes, and it matters here. Weekends and holidays sell out and they won't take walk-ins once that happens, so get a slot booked before you turn up.

What age is it suitable for?

Six and up is the general guide. Under 9s need an adult on their team for Ultimate Challenges, so factor that in if you were planning to sit this one out.

Do we need grip socks?

For the jumping activities, yes. Bring your own or buy a pair on site for £1.50.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site.

Can we pay by cash?

No, it's card only across the centre.

What are the opening hours?

It varies by activity and by term time versus school holidays. Bowling and the amusements tend to open earliest, from 10:30am in the holidays, while Ultimate Challenges and laser tag have shorter windows, particularly on weekdays.

Is there food?

NY Urban Pizza is on site, with pizzas from £11.95 and salads from £5.95.

Can we do a birthday party there?

Parties run as 90-minute packages, an hour of activity plus 30 minutes in the party room, with a minimum group size of 8 to 10 depending on what you book.

How long should we plan to stay?

If you're combining laser tag, bowling and Ultimate Challenges, block out a good few hours. Each activity is booked in its own timed slot rather than one open session.

Should we fill in anything before we arrive?

They recommend completing the waiver in advance rather than doing it at the desk, which saves time once you're there.
