What it’s like
Tree to tree zip lines and obstacles up to 6m high, with three routes from easy to hard for kids six and up.
This is the high ropes course at Ashton Court, 46 obstacles strung between trees at 4m to 6m up, 8 tree-to-tree zips plus 2 longer zip lines. Kids pick from easy, medium or hard routes, and everything's clipped to an auto-belay system so nobody's relying on a harness they've fastened themselves. Sessions run 1.5 hours including kit up, which sounds generous until you remember the walk in eats into it.
It's built for 6 and over, but under-8s need a grown-up with them, and one adult can cover up to 3 kids, so it's not a one-in-one-out ratio if you've got a few. There's a minimum height of 1.1m and a weight limit of 115 kilos, worth knowing before you promise a wobbly six-year-old they're definitely doing the hard route. Closed-toe shoes only, and dress for being outside because this is an all-weather site, they only close for lightning, gales or proper snow and ice.
Getting there matters more than you'd think. Park at the golf course car park and pay through the Ringo app or with change, because the Mansion car park route involves a steep, muddy climb that they flag as a bad idea with a pushchair. There are cafes and toilets at both the Mansion House and the golf course car park, plus an emergency composting loo out in the woods if you're mid-course when nature calls.
At £21.95 for a child and £23.95 for an adult, a family of four is looking at a decent chunk of change for ninety minutes, and you do need to book ahead. Birthday parties get a woodland parachute session and can hire the pizza oven for £20, with a minimum of 8 people for the party area.
