What it’s like

A working sheep and cattle farm near Malton where you can tour the fields by day and sleep out in a shepherd's hut or pod by night.

You walk the farm tour past sheep and cattle, £13 for an adult and £9 for a child, and if you time it right there's a lambing experience thrown in. It's proper farm terrain though, not a manicured trail. The ground's uneven and hilly, and it turns slippy when it's wet, so wellies aren't optional.

The glamping side is where this gets interesting. You've got a choice of a shepherd's hut with countryside views, or one of the off-grid pods, Landpod and Romans Rest. There's also farm stay camping if you'd rather pitch your own tent, though you're sharing the paddock with up to six other people, so don't expect total privacy. Bed sheets and pillows are provided in the pods, but bring your own sleeping bag and towels, and the trunk of cooking kit covers pans, cutlery and a gas stove so you can actually cook something.

There's no wifi in the shepherd's hut, just 4G, which is either a relief or an annoyance depending on how the week's gone. The shower's off-grid too, tucked in the woods and shared with other campers, but it's heated properly so you're not gritting your teeth through a cold wash. Fire pits mean marshmallows after dark, and breakfast runs to a bacon sandwich with yogurt and fruit if you don't fancy cooking your own. You can also take home lamb burgers or chops from the farm's own stock for £7.50 and £10 a pack.

One thing to flag: the car park isn't right next to the camping pitch, so you're carrying bags about 35 metres to unload. It's also not set up for a boozy weekend away, more a quiet couple of nights under the stars than a stag do. Glamping opens for summer 2026, so this is one to pencil in ahead rather than book on a whim.

Plan your visit

How much does the farm tour cost?

£13 for an adult and £9 for a child.

Is there wifi at the glamping pods?

No wifi in the shepherd's hut, but the 4G signal is strong enough to get by on.

What's provided in the pods?

Bed sheets and pillows come with it, though you'll need your own sleeping bag and towels. There's a full trunk of cooking gear too, pans, kettle, crockery and a gas stove.

What are the showers like?

An off-grid shower in the woods, shared with other campers, but heated to a normal domestic level so it's a proper wash, not a cold shock.

Is the site suitable for a group getaway?

It's not really set up for a heavy boozing weekend, more suited to a quieter stay.

Is the terrain buggy or wheelchair friendly?

The farm ground is uneven, hilly and can get slippy when muddy, so it's worth planning footwear and mobility around that.
