WHERE

Edgware

What it’s like

A hut four minutes from Edgware Station where 6 to 14s build dens in the woods, bake brownies and play dodgeball.

Den building and rope swings in the woods are the bit your kids will still be talking about on the walk home. Indoors it's brownies out of the oven and dodgeball, which is a canny pairing: one gets them quiet and concentrating, the other gets them loud again. The site sums the whole thing up as outdoor adventure, teamwork and skills for life, and the den building is the clearest example of that.

It's for ages 6 to 14, so a six-year-old and a twelve-year-old both have a place in it, though the older end will get more out of the teamwork side. There's a free taster session, which is the sensible way to find out whether your child takes to it before you commit to a regular evening.

They've got their own Scout Hut, a four minute walk from Edgware Station, so you can leave the car at home. Group bookings are listed as an option, which is worth knowing if you're asking on behalf of a school or another club rather than one child.

Signing up means filling in a contact form on their site and waiting for one of the volunteer leaders to come back to you. No prices or term dates are up front, so the first conversation is where you'll get those.
