There is a phase, usually somewhere between three and seven, when dinosaurs stop being an interest and become a full-time occupation. You will learn the difference between a brachiosaurus and a diplodocus, and you will be corrected, loudly, in public, when you get it wrong.

This list is for that phase. Nottingham does not have a dedicated dinosaur park, but it has a proper natural history gallery at Wollaton, two dinosaur adventure golf courses (Jurassic Cove and Lost World), and caves with genuine Ice Age art fifty minutes up the road. Beyond that, three bigger days out have animatronic dinosaurs bolted onto the main attraction. The order runs from closest and cheapest to furthest and priciest.

The list at a glance

01

Wollaton Hall & Deer Park

  • Nottingham · 3 miles
  • Kids free, £18 adult annual
  • Half a day
tp18780 discovering dinosaurs mid 1024x683

Start here. Inside the Elizabethan mansion in the middle of the deer park is Nottingham's natural history museum, and its Discovering Dinosaurs Gallery is the closest thing the city has to a proper dinosaur day. Kids 15 and under go free, and a single adult ticket covers repeat visits for a year, so you can do forty-five minutes of dinosaurs, a play park and the deer, and come back next month when they ask again. Outdoor trails and activity sheets stretch it into a full morning.

02

Jurassic Cove Adventure Golf

  • Nottingham · 3 miles
  • 1-2 hours
Jurassic Cove adventure golf course with dinosaur theming

An outdoor adventure golf course in Basford where the theme is dinosaurs from the first hole to the last. It is the rare dinosaur thing that works for everyone: the six-year-old is there for the dinosaurs, you are there because the later holes are genuinely awkward. Under-13s need a paying adult with them and spectators cannot stand on the course, so plan on everyone playing. Cashless, pre-booking gets you priority, free parking with a 2.4m height barrier.

03

Lost World Adventure Golf

  • Nottingham · 2 miles
  • £6 juniors, £9 adults
  • 1-2 hours
Outdoor mini golf course with themed volcanic and dinosaur-shaped obstacles on artificial green.

The other dinosaur course, on Trentside at Just Golf. Eighteen floodlit holes, which matters in winter: you can do dinosaur golf at half four in December and it feels like a night out. Grace's Coffee Shop is on site for the warm-up afterwards. Under-16s need an adult, and the venue is cashless.
