Country Parks & Nature Reserves in Newcastle
If you want grass, air and something for the kids to look at that isn't a screen, Rising Sun Country Park in Benton is the one to know. It's free to get into, with trails round the lake, farm animals to spot, and a cafe and toilets on site so you're not planning your visit around a flask and a packet of biscuits. There's parking too, which matters more than it should on a Saturday morning. It suits toddlers who want a short waddle to see the animals just as well as older kids who'll happily walk further round the lake. The picnic area is worth using if the weather holds, and dogs are welcome if yours is coming along. There isn't a soft play option among the places listed here, so this is one for wrapping up and getting outside rather than a wet-weather backup.
