Observatories & Planetariums in Liverpool
If you fancy a proper look at the night sky, there's really one place to know here. Leighton Observatory, run by the Liverpool Astronomical Society out in Widnes, opens up free every Wednesday at 7pm. Members are on hand with telescopes, pointing out whatever's overhead that night, planets, star clusters, the moon if it's clear. There's no ticket to buy and no need to book, which makes it an easy one to try and see if it grabs your kids. It suits older children better than toddlers, since you're standing outside in the dark waiting your turn at a telescope, and it depends on the weather playing along. Wrap up warm, and check the sky's clear before you head out, since a cloudy night means less to see.
