Salman Toor's first European solo show, with 19 paintings never before seen in Britain, at The Courtauld Gallery.
This is the first solo exhibition in Europe of New York-based painter Salman Toor, bringing together 19 of his most striking paintings, none of which have been shown in Britain before. The works explore friendship, love, solitude and the search for belonging, often with a dreamlike or humorous edge, and draw on Toor's own experience of queer and immigrant life straddling different cultures. One key painting, The Bar on East 13th, responds directly to the Courtauld's own Manet masterpiece, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère. Alongside the main show, a display of Toor's drawings is on view in the Gilbert & Ildiko Butler Drawings Gallery, including a recent acquisition by the Courtauld. The exhibition runs in the Denise Coates Exhibition Galleries on Floor 3, with lift access available. Courtauld Members get free entry. On selected Friday evenings, 2 October, 6 November, 4 December 2026 and 8 January 2027, the Gallery stays open later until 20:00, giving a quieter way to see the show after hours.
