Amateur stage adaptation of Joan Lindsay's mystery, performed in the Studio Theatre at People's Theatre.
On a summer's day in 1900, a group of schoolgirls set out for a picnic at Hanging Rock, a volcanic beauty spot in rural Australia, and the day turns tragic when three of the girls and their teacher vanish without trace. This amateur production, adapted by Tom Wright from Joan Lindsay's novel, uses five performers to piece together a story that slips between memory and myth, blending uncertainty, beauty and terror. Performances run in the Studio Theatre at People's Theatre, where seating is unallocated. The venue notes that some audience members may want to check content advice beforehand given the play's themes, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The Studio is fully wheelchair accessible, though latecomers cannot be admitted once the performance begins.
