Free weekly open laboratory where archaeologists analyse historic finds from Auckland Palace excavations in Bishop Auckland town centre.

Archaeologists working on eight years of excavations at Auckland Palace bring their finds out from behind the scenes for this public open laboratory at The Hearth, No.1 Market Place in Bishop Auckland town centre. Drop in to see historic objects being analysed and find out more about what has been uncovered. It's free to attend and there's no need to book, just turn up during the session times. It runs weekly on Fridays, though it's closed on Friday 7, 14 and 21 August.
