Water Sports & Paddleboarding in Derby

If you fancy something on or near the water, the options for a drive out of Derby are more about fishing and adventure than boards just now. Out at Ilkeston, the Nutbrook Canal has free learn to fish sessions run by Canal & River Trust coaches, with kit, bait and the day licence sorted, from age 6. A longer trip out to Nottingham gets you Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home to the National Water Sports Centre, where you can take on two heights of rope course strung over the lake, from £13 and open to age 1 and up. For toddlers or a first go, the free fishing at Ilkeston is the easy choice and needs booking ahead. For older children after something more physical, the rope course at Holme Pierrepont is the one to save for last, and with mini golf and a free play park on site, plus a cafe and parking, it is easy to make a full day of it.
