Walking & Cycling Trails in Derby

If you want proper distance from the front door, the two options here take you a bit further out, and both are free. A drive out to Awsworth gets you Bennerley Viaduct, a skywalk 18 metres above the Erewash Valley that's flat and buggy-friendly the whole way, with a café open Thursday to Sunday and a nature reserve underneath worth a wander. Further still, a drive out to Sutton-in-Ashfield brings you to Silverhill Wood, reclaimed colliery woodland with cycling trails, orienteering and a dog selfie spot for anyone walking with a pet. Both are free to visit with parking that won't cost you anything either, so the choice comes down to what you fancy underfoot. Bennerley suits pushchairs and wheelchairs and gives you food on site if you time it right. Silverhill is more rugged, better for older kids on bikes or dogs that need proper space to roam, and there's a picnic area if you're bringing your own lunch.
