Reading, Book Clubs & Storytime in York

York has a couple of good spots for readers rather than a long list, but both are worth knowing about. Books & Bevs, a café and bookshop close to the centre, runs storytelling sessions along with clay jewellery classes and writing workshops for kids aged 8 to 12. Criminally Good Books, right in the centre, is a bookshop given over entirely to crime and mystery, a proper browse for anyone in the family hooked on a good whodunnit. If your children are younger, Books & Bevs is the one to head for, with sessions and workshops built around that 8 to 12 age range and a café for parents needing a sit down. Older readers or teenagers who like darker plots will get more from Criminally Good Books, though it suits a browse more than a structured session. Both are close to the centre, so a single trip into York could easily take in one after the other.
