Observatories & Planetariums in Stoke-on-Trent

Nothing sits right in Stoke-on-Trent itself for this one, but two proper options are within a drive. Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is out near Macclesfield, a longer trip from the centre, with the Space Dome films, trails and a cafe, plus free parking. Further on again, in Brailsford, the Flamsteed Observatory holds public observing nights where you look through the society's own telescopes, and it costs nothing to get in. Jodrell Bank is the one to build a day around, with picnic areas and space to wander if the telescope talk goes over small heads. Flamsteed is barer, just a car park and the sky, and it only works on the nights the society opens up; that date is the whole trip, so check it before setting off. Take a torch for the walk back to the car.
