Viewpoints & Picnic Spots in Reading
Reading itself is short on proper viewpoints, so this list takes you out to Crowthorne and Bracknell instead. Buckler's Forest is open heathland with wide surfaced paths, good for cycling, running or a dog walk, and there are picnic tables scattered about if you fancy stopping. Lily Hill Park in Bracknell has a brass rubbing wildlife trail and animal tracks to hunt down along its paths, which gives younger children something to actually do rather than just admire the view. Both are free and both have picnic spots, so it comes down to what your day needs. Buckler's Forest suits anyone who wants space to roam and dogs are welcome. Lily Hill Park has parking, is reachable by public transport, and even has EV charging, useful if you are coming from further out. Neither is right on Reading's doorstep, so treat it as a half day out rather than a quick after-school stop.
