WHAT IT’S LIKE

Elizabethan mansion in 500 acres of deer park, kids go free, there's a dinosaur gallery, play parks and wild deer roaming right by the paths.

Wollaton Hall combines a natural history museum inside a Grade I listed mansion with 500 acres of parkland where two herds of wild deer (red and fallow) roam. Kids will love the new Discovering Dinosaurs Gallery, outdoor trails and activity sheets, and there are play parks near the 508 café and Sutton Passey crescent to burn off energy. The Hidden History Tour runs daily at 11am and 2pm for those wanting to dig deeper into the house. Admission is now 'pay once, visit all year' at £18 for an adult with kids (15 and under, up to three per paying adult) going free, good value if you're local and might return. There's also a Rover Pass covering Wollaton Hall, Nottingham Castle and Newstead Abbey for £39, and annual passes bundling parking with museum entry. Parking costs £5 on weekdays and £6 at weekends (pay by the RingGo app, code 18914, or by card on site, no QR codes), with blue badge parking available in all car parks; coach parking is £50. Three cafés (Wollaton 508, Courtyard and Deli) offer indoor and outdoor seating, and there are baby feeding facilities in the courtyard café plus baby changing. The park is open daily except Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, with the Hall & Museums open 11am–4pm (last entry 3.30pm). Keep dogs on leads, stay at least 50m from the deer, and don't feed them, deer rutting runs September–November and calving May–July, so extra care is needed then. Drones and BBQs aren't allowed, and there's no swimming or fishing in the lake.
