What it’s like

Self-catering cabins on a farm with two acres to roam, a lake for fishing and your own fire pit for the evening.

This is a cabin stay rather than a day visit, six Wigwam Cabins dotted on a farm with two acres of land and play equipment for the kids to get stuck into. There's a lake on site too, so an afternoon's fishing is on the cards if that's your thing. Each cabin comes with its own fire pit and BBQ, and firewood's sold on site, which makes the evenings feel like an event rather than an afterthought.

Inside, the cabins are properly kitted out: kitchen with an electric hob, kettle and microwave, a double bed plus a sofa bed, telly, free wifi and a wall heater. Bedding and towels are sorted for the number of guests you've booked, and there's cutlery and pans for four, so you're not hauling half your kitchen with you. Check-in is from 3pm and you need to be out by 10am on departure day, which is fairly standard but worth building into your journey plans either way.

One thing to flag: there's no family shower, so bathing a baby needs a bit of improvising in the cabin's own shower and basin. There's also a quiet policy after 9pm, and children aren't allowed in the play area past that point. Dogs are welcome, up to two per cabin on leads, though there's a charge for bringing them.

Parking is one space per cabin, and the site's open all year round, so this works as a winter fire-pit escape just as much as a summer one. It's about 2.5 miles from a bus service into Preston, running every ten minutes in the day, if you fancy a break from the farm itself.
