Farm on the Fell
WHERE
Preston
What it’s like
A farm shop stocked with pasture fed beef, pork, eggs and raw milk, plus a seasonal gelato hatch in summer.
This isn't a petting farm with a trail to walk or animals to feed. It's a working farm with a shop attached, and what you're going for is the produce: pasture fed beef and pork, eggs, raw milk and their own gelato when it's running. If you're after a proper stock-up of meat that hasn't seen a grain sack, this is the reason to make the trip.
The shop's open every day from 8am to 8pm, which is a genuinely useful window if you're trying to fit an errand around nap times or a school run. They only close for Christmas Day, so it's a decent fallback when everywhere else has shut up shop.
The gelato hatch is the bit worth timing your visit around if you've got kids in tow. It only runs Easter to the end of September, Saturdays and Sundays, 12pm to 4pm, so a winter visit is shop-only with no ice cream at the end of it. Worth bearing in mind if a promised gelato is what's getting everyone in the car.
Parking's free and there's overflow space for busier times.
