What it’s like

Pick a blank tile, plate or figurine and paint it yourself, then they fire it while you wait for another day.

You choose your piece first, a blank tile from £12 or something like a figurine, plate or bowl from £18, then settle in and paint it however you like. There's a café on site too, so it's not just a paint-and-leave job, you can make a proper sit-down of it.

Thursday's the one to know about: Crafternoon Tea pairs your painting session with afternoon tea and a bottomless pot of tea, which turns a craft activity into a proper couple of hours out. If you'd rather not carry a wet-paint plate home on the bus, they'll post it to you for £4 a piece.

Booking is essential across the board, no turning up on spec, and the opening hours are a bit particular. Closed Mondays and Wednesdays, open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 10 til 6. There are also occasional Tuesday adult evenings from 1pm rather than the usual 10am start, which is one to note if you were planning a family session that day and it turns out to be a grown-ups one instead.

Birthday parties are catered for up to 20 people, with take-home creative packs on offer too, handy if you want to keep the activity going at home or in the garden afterwards.
