What it’s like
A proper local stage for Christmas panto, gigs and youth theatre, a five-minute walk from Tunbridge Wells station.
Christmas here means Elf The Musical, at £26.50 a ticket, which is the sort of price that makes you check the calendar for a matinee instead. The programme isn't just seasonal shows either. There's live music like All Floyd: The Best of Pink Floyd for the grown-ups in the party, and Backstage Youth Theatre Workshops for school years 8 to 13 at £15, which is a decent shout if you've got a teenager who fancies being on a stage rather than watching one.
This is a proper theatre building rather than a big commercial venue, and it shows in the details: a hearing loop and headsets you can book ahead, sensory bags to borrow if a show might be a lot for a sensitive kid, and step-free access across the ground floor. The auditorium takes two wheelchairs if you let the Box Office know in advance, and personal carers go in free. One catch worth knowing: there's no lift to the first floor rooms, so anything upstairs is stairs-only.
The Café & Bar is open 10am to 3pm Monday to Saturday, and on performance days it opens an hour before curtain up, doing cakes, scones and a proper drinks list including wine and beer if you fancy one before the show. You can't bring your own food or drink into the auditorium, but anything bought at the bar is fine to take in with you. Dogs are welcome in the café and garden, just not in the auditorium unless they're working.
Parking is on-site but tight, so if you're driving on a busy panto evening it's worth getting there early or using the train station five minutes down the road, which is about 50 minutes from London Charing Cross if you're coming from further out.

Yes, there's an accessible entrance and step-free access across the ground floor, and the auditorium takes two wheelchairs if you contact the Box Office to book. There's no lift to rooms above the ground floor though.
