What it’s like

Hunt the hidden Mafia over a 45-minute round, at public game nights across West London or a private event at your own place.

Everyone gets a role and a village to defend. Innocent residents sit round the table while a hidden Mafia picks off one player each night phase, and a Sheriff gets to investigate someone while the accusations fly. It's a talking game, not a board game with pieces to move, so the fun is in the arguing. One session runs about 45 minutes, which is a good length for a first go, though you'll probably want a second straight after.

Public game nights happen across West London, and the way in is the Meetup page: you check what's scheduled and sign up for the next one. That's the faff of it. There's no walk-up slot, so if you fancy a game this Saturday you'll need to look first and see what's on. Complete beginners are welcome and they say all skill levels mix in fine, which matters for a game where not knowing the rules can make you look guilty.

Private events are the other route. They bring the whole thing to your own gathering, and they'll talk you through booking. Allow three to four hours rather than an hour, because that covers several rounds plus the sitting about and chatting between them. It's a party format, not a quick drop-in, so plan it as your main event for the evening rather than something to fit round dinner.

Asking about a private event costs nothing, which is the sensible way to start if you've got a group.

Plan your visit

What actually is Mafia?

A social deduction game. Innocent residents live alongside a hidden Mafia, and everyone tries to work out who the Mafia are before they pick the village off.

Do we need to know how to play?

Not at all. They say all skill levels are welcome, from complete beginners to people who've played for years.

How long is a game?

Around 45 minutes per session. Private events run three to four hours so you get several rounds in.

How do we get into a public game night?

Check the Meetup page and sign up for the next one. That's how they schedule them across West London.

Can they come to us?

They run private events at your own gathering and will advise on booking. Allow three to four hours for multiple rounds and socialising.
