What it’s like
A small children's farm with chicks, donkeys and goats to pet, plus indoor sand and soft play for wet days.
This one's built around getting close to the animals rather than watching them from behind a rail. The list includes chicks, ducklings, cows, pigs, donkeys, goats, geese, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens, so there's a proper mix of the small and stroke-friendly alongside the bigger farmyard names. Ride-on tractors are the other thing kids will drag you back to.
Entry is £4 for a child and £3 for an adult, which is refreshingly low for a day out and means you're not committing much if you've only got half an hour to spare. The children's farm and café run shorter hours than the farm shop itself. Tuesday to Friday you get from 9:30am to 4pm, Saturday it's 9:30am to 3pm, and everything's shut on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays.
There's an indoor sand pit and soft play area, which earns its keep if the weather's rubbish, though the hay play barn is out of action until Christmas so that's one less option for now. The Marshmallow Cow Café does homemade cakes, lunches, ice cream and locally sourced coffee, which is a decent enough spread for a farm café and means you can turn a quick animal visit into a proper couple of hours. Dogs are welcome too, if you're bringing one along on the walk over.
