The House of Splatter
BEST FOR
Ages 4-15
WHERE
Southampton
What it’s like
Kids get a canvas, paints and a splatter session for an hour, protective gear included, while you stay in the studio with them.
This is paint splatter art for kids aged 4 to 15, an A4 canvas, a selection of paints and tools, and a speaker each so they can play their own music while they go at it. There's no art experience needed and no right way to do it. Facilitators guide the session, so it works whether you've got a confident little artist or one who just wants to fling paint about for fun.
Sessions run an hour, though only around 50 minutes of that is actual painting once you've allowed time to get into protective gear. They want you there 10 minutes early to sort that out, and you can still get in up to 20 minutes late if you're running behind, but miss the slot entirely and it counts as a no-show with no refund. Worth setting an alarm for.
One thing to plan around: a parent or guardian has to stay in the studio for the whole session, even if you're not painting yourself. It's a small studio setup rather than a big attraction, so this is a focused hour rather than an afternoon out, and it's bookings only for now, no walking in off the street.
Protective wear is provided but the paints are water-based and can still mark clothes, so old clothes and shoes you don't mind ruining are the sensible move. There's a car park opposite on Oakbank Road if you're driving, chargeable at 50p an hour.
