What it’s like

A Chorlton theatre with shows, cinema screenings and classes in everything from acting to ukulele.

This is more a community arts centre than a big glossy theatre, and that's exactly the appeal. Kids can catch a live show or a cinema screening, or actually get stuck in themselves with classes in acting, singing, dancing, ukulele, writing, painting and drawing. If your child fidgets through anything longer than an hour, the classes might suit them better than sitting through a full performance.

The theatre itself is upstairs, reached by lift, and wheelchair accessible seats are available if you book them in advance rather than turning up and hoping. The Dressing Room Café & Bar does food from midday to 3pm, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options covered, so it works for a lunch stop before or after whatever you're there for.

Opening hours shift about through the week: it's open into the evening Monday to Wednesday, finishes at 5pm Thursday and Friday, and Saturday runs 11am to 7pm. Sundays it's shut unless there's a show on, which is worth bearing in mind if a Sunday outing was the plan.

Getting there without a car is easy enough, with the Chorlton tram stop a five minute walk away. If you are driving, parking is on-street or at the Chorlton Precinct car park nearby.
