What it’s like
A tabletop gaming venue in Belper for over-16s, with table bookings, terrain-heavy scenarios and themed events.
This one's for the teenagers and adults in the house rather than the kids, so worth flagging straight away: it's strictly 16 and over, and anyone under that age needs a paying adult with them. If you've got a sixteen-year-old obsessed with Warhammer or Magic: The Gathering, this is more their territory than a family day out in the usual sense.
What's on offer is proper tabletop gaming. There's extensive terrain and scenery set up for gaming scenarios, so it's not just a table and a box of dice, and the stock list covers miniatures, card games, Warhammer, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon and Dungeons & Dragons. Staff are described as happy to guide newcomers through a game, which is handy if your teenager wants to try something they have never played before.
A casual table booking is £5, which is fair enough for an afternoon of gaming, but the themed events run £25 to £30 a ticket and those need booking online in advance rather than turning up on the day. Refunds are only given up to 30 days before an event, so don't buy tickets on a whim if plans might change. Opening hours are long in the week, midday to 10pm Tuesday to Friday, but Saturday and Sunday are shorter daytime sessions, 10am to 5pm.
It's a short walk from Belper station and the bus station, which helps if your teenager is heading there without you. Parking next door at Field Lane costs £3.20 for over four hours, or there's free parking at the Coppice car park off the market place if you don't mind a slightly longer walk. The venue is ground floor with some steps.
