What it’s like
A small, free local history museum with Victorian school tablets, old desks and war medals, open Friday mornings only.
This one's a proper local history stop rather than a big day out. You'll find Victorian tablets, rows of old school desks and cases of war medals and memorials, the sort of things that get a "what's that then" out of a curious eight-year-old more than a toddler. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy add-on to a walk rather than something you have to plan a whole day around.
The catch is the opening hours: Fridays only, 10am to 2pm, and that's it for the week. Miss the window and you're waiting until next Friday, so if you're passing through on a Saturday this one's off the list. It runs every Friday all year though, so there's no summer closure to trip you up.
There's a café on site and it's wheelchair accessible, both useful if you're combining it with grandparents or a buggy. Given the size and the subject matter, this reads like a half-hour to an hour visit rather than something to fill an afternoon, best paired with something else nearby.
