What it’s like
Free local museum with a children's corner of historic bits and bobs to handle, open Wednesdays and Saturdays.
This is a small, free museum where the main draw for kids is the Children's Corner, a spot with historic items you're actually allowed to touch and play with rather than just look at through glass. Beyond that there are permanent displays and changing exhibitions, so a repeat visit a few months later won't show you exactly the same thing.
It only opens Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm, which makes it easy to miss if you're not paying attention to the day of the week. It also shuts for winter and reopens at the beginning of March, so this is very much a spring-to-autumn plan rather than something to fall back on in January.
Because it's free and small, it suits a short visit rather than a whole afternoon out, tacked onto a trip into Hedon rather than the main event. There's also exhibition space upstairs that members of the public can book for their own work, which is a nice touch if you're into local art or history beyond the museum's own collection.
