What it’s like

An outdoor cable-lake set-up with an inflatable aqua park, wakeboarding and paddleboarding, plus a beach and shallow paddling for the under-fives.

This is a proper water venue rather than a splash pad you nip into for twenty minutes. Older kids and adults can have a go at wakeboarding on the cable lake, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, or the inflatable Aqua Park with its slides and rides. Younger ones aren't left out either, there's a beach area to potter about on and shallow paddling set aside for the one to five year olds.

The Aqua Park has a firm line though: you need to be 6 years old and at least 1.1 metres tall to get on it, and everyone doing any water activity has to swim 50 metres unaided. That rules out a fair few younger kids for the big inflatable stuff, so if you've got a mixed-age group, expect the littlest ones to be on the beach or paddling while the others queue for slides. Buoyancy aids are provided but the small sizes for babies and toddlers are limited, so it's worth bringing your own if you can.

Booking ahead is the sensible move here, and they want you in an hour before your slot to check in, get kitted up and sign the waiver forms (which you can do online beforehand to speed things up). Parking's free for over 200 cars with an overflow, though it can get tight when it's busy, same with the lockers, so bring a padlock or grab one from reception for £3. There's a café on site for hot and cold snacks once everyone's out of the water, and dogs are welcome everywhere except the beach.

Thunder and lightning will see activities cancelled, which is fair enough for a lake full of metal cable equipment, but it's the one weather call that could scupper a booked slot. Ringo rides have a 17 stone weight limit combined for two riders, and lost or damaged paddling kit gets a £25 charge.
