What it’s like

Climb into a real Vulcan Bomber and a Hawk T.1 jet cockpit among a full collection of parked aircraft and helicopters.

The whole point here is getting up close to actual aircraft rather than looking at them behind glass. Kids can climb inside cockpits, including a Vulcan Bomber and a Hawk T.1 fast jet trainer, then wander round the wider collection of aircraft and helicopters parked outside. That cockpit access is the bit worth saving for last, since it's the one they'll go on about afterwards.

It's an outdoor site, so a dry day makes a real difference to how much you enjoy trudging between the exhibits. Picnics are allowed if you fancy bringing your own lunch, and there's a café on site if you'd rather not carry sandwiches round a museum. Dogs are welcome too, which is a nice touch if a walk round aircraft is part of a bigger day out.

Entry is £8.50 for an adult and £4.50 for a child under 16, or £21 for a family ticket covering two adults and three children, which works out sensible if you've got a few of them in tow. There's no need to book ahead. Last entry is an hour before closing, and opening hours shift a bit with the seasons, so it's open later in British Summer Time than over winter.

If you can time a visit for one of the Open Cockpit Weekends, in early May or early September 2026, that's when access to the cockpits seems to be at its fullest, going by how the museum flags those dates separately from the normal opening hours.
