What it’s like

Lakeside country park with seasonal petting farm, play area and cafes - free entry, paid parking, near Sheffield.

Rother Valley Country Park (S26 5PQ) is a big lakeside day out between Sheffield and Worksop - walks, play area, seasonal Station Farm petting animals, miniature train, cafes and water sports.

Park entry is free; pay for parking and individual activities. Station Farm (lambs, goats, llamas, alpacas) usually opens summer weekends and school holidays - check rvcp.co.uk before you go. About 20-30 minutes from Sheffield via the A57.

Combine with the activity centre if you want boats or bikes. Dogs welcome on leads in most areas (not in the farm or fenced play).

How do we find it?

Close to Rotherham's border with Sheffield and Derbyshire. Address: Rother Valley Country Park, Mansfield Road, Wales Bar, Sheffield, S26 5PQ (note: postcode takes sat navs 1 mile away). By road: follow brown signs from Junction 31 M1, take A57 towards Sheffield, at roundabout take A618 towards Clowne, Mansfield and Wales Bar, follow A618 straight on at traffic lights, go down the hill and turn right into the park entrance drive. By bus: nearest stops are at least a mile walk; X5 from Sheffield Bus Station to Delves Lane, Wales Bar; 21 bus to Harthill from Rotherham Interchange; 30 bus to Crystal Peaks drops at Eckington Road, Beighton. By Supertram: Blue route to Halfway, exit at Waterthorpe stop, signposted by blue public rights of way signs approx 1 mile to the park.

    Bike hire centre, well-equipped, open 10am-5pm, closed in winter.

    Cafe open Monday to Sunday, 9am-5pm.

    Located on the Main Lake, offers canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, rafting, and hire of pedal boats, rowing boats, sailing boats and canoes for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people.

    Blue and Red mountain bike trail routes, plus the Green cycle route, a flat 5K route around the two main lakes. Maintained and developed by Rother Valley Riders.

    Small free play area located in the northern part of the park, as well as one at the new Waterfront Cafe. Dogs not allowed within the fenced children's play area.
