What it’s like

Wander Italianate lawns, lake paths and woodland play, then refuel in the courtyard cafe when legs need a sit-down.

Kids stretch out on Italianate lawns, rose beds, lake paths and woodland play - plenty of space to burn energy before anyone asks for ice cream. Gardens day tickets start at £6 for children aged 3-12 (under-3s free); adults £12, or a family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children at £35. The site is cashless.

Gardens open Wed-Sun and Bank Holiday Mondays 10:30-16:30 from mid-March to 1 November. The courtyard cafe opens from 09:00 in season. Hall access is guided-tour only on Fridays - book ahead if you want that; garden day tickets are sold on site.

Closed to the public Mon-Tue outside Bank Holiday Mondays, and the gardens shut after 1 November until spring. About 45-60 minutes from Nottingham on the Chesterfield fringe - a solid Derby / NE Derbyshire day out.
