What it’s like
A music charity's Belfast base with live gigs, open mic nights, arts and crafts days and the odd record fair.
This is a music space with a proper mix going on. There's live music through the year, youth open mic sessions for anyone wanting to have a go, and arts and crafts sessions that get younger visitors involved rather than just watching from the sidelines. Record fairs pop up too, so you can dig through CDs and vinyl if that's your thing.
The Acoustic Picnic is the one to know about. It's free, it runs monthly, and it's built for families: sing-alongs from the Over The Hill Collective, crafts, games and dancing. Everything else is a bit more grown-up in flavour, like the Scratch My Progress programme, which gives musicians nine months of free studio time and mentoring, but the picnic days are where you'd bring the kids.
Most of what's on is free to get into, though ticketed events like the Metalland festival run around £10. Opening hours are worth knowing before you plan a visit: weekdays 9am to 5pm, Saturdays 11am to 5pm, and it's shut on Sundays, so a Sunday trip is out.
There's not a huge amount listed beyond the events themselves, just toilets on site, so this isn't somewhere you'd build a whole day out around. It works best as a stop for a specific gig, craft session or fair rather than a wander-in-and-see kind of visit.
