What it’s like
A big Sheffield event venue for live music nights, tribute acts and party bookings rather than a kids' day out.
This one's worth flagging before you book: OEC Sheffield is a large live event and function venue, built around ticketed music nights, tribute shows and table bookings rather than anything aimed at children. If you're after a family day out, this probably isn't it.
The booking system is built around adult entertainment nights. Tables seat up to 10 (a few stretch to 12), you pay a £10 per person deposit to hold seats, and the rest of the balance is due two weeks before the event. You order food in advance through an electronic pre-order form once you've booked, and they'll ask about dietary requirements there too. None of that is set up with kids in mind.
Where it does score well is access. The building has step-free entry throughout, lifts, evacuation chairs and wheelchair-accessible toilets with grab rails, plus a changing places toilet with a shower. There's disabled parking right by the entrance with drop-off points, and over 400 free spaces on site generally, so getting a wheelchair user or a buggy in isn't the issue.
Getting there without a car is straightforward too. It's about 15 minutes' drive from Sheffield Railway Station, and both tram lines and the Number 7 or 8 buses stop within a 5 to 10 minute walk at Hillsborough.
