What it’s like
Talks, live shows and hands-on workshops mixing storytelling with real science and engineering, mostly free to attend.
You turn up for the shows, really. There are talks, live demonstrations and exhibitions running across the festival, plus workshops that mix storytelling with proper engineering and science, so a session about rockets might involve building one as much as watching one. Most events don't need booking ahead, since a good chunk of the programme is free.
For the paid shows, booking online is the sensible move because the site is upfront that many sell out. If you don't get round to it, you can still buy on the day at the Information Desk in The Explorium at The Forum, card or cash, or online right up to the start time. Babies under two go free without a ticket, everyone else needs one, which is worth remembering if you're bringing a toddler who's just turned two and suddenly costs the same as you.
There's no concession pricing, which the festival is honest about, they say they've just kept prices low across the board instead. If you need an Essential Companion ticket for access reasons, that's bookable free for paid events, and the team will sort accessibility requirements if you email ahead or flag it during booking.
The Forum itself is step-free throughout, with accessible parking, a changing places facility and sensory-friendly provisions, so it's a reasonably relaxed venue to navigate with a pushchair or a wheelchair. Ten tickets is the cap per transaction, which is plenty for most families but worth knowing if you're organising a bigger group.

Do we need to book in advance?
Not always, plenty of the programme is free and turn-up-and-go. For paid shows, book online early as they can sell out, though you can still try on the day at the Information Desk or online right up to the start time.
How much does it cost?
Many events are free. There aren't concession prices, but the festival says it keeps ticket prices low across the board instead.
Does my baby need a ticket?
Under twos go free without a ticket. Everyone else, adults included, needs one for most events.
Is there wheelchair access?
The Forum has step-free access throughout, plus accessible parking and a changing places facility. Essential Companion tickets are available free for paid events if you need someone with you.
Can I book a big group?
There's a limit of ten tickets per transaction, so larger groups may need to split the booking.
