Free gas-history museum with 500+ exhibits - temporarily closed until 13 October 2026 for maintenance works.
Britain's National Gas Museum - vintage gas lights, coal-gas stories and odd gadgets like gas radios and hair-dryers across 500+ exhibits in the old Aylestone Road works.
Entry is free (donations welcome). Groups of 8+ should book ahead. Free parking behind the museum; toilets on site. The museum is on two floors and the upper floor is not step-free.
Temporarily closed for maintenance since 28 July 2026 - reopening 13 October 2026.
195 Aylestone Road, LE2 7QJ - look for the 1878 clock tower just outside the city centre.

About 1 mile from Leicester city centre on Aylestone Road, just off the A426, 12 minutes from junction 21 on the M1. Look for the red brick clock tower. Nearest train station is Leicester (LEI), taxi approx £6.00. Bus services 84, 85 and 87 run down Aylestone Road.
