What it’s like
A games café and bar in Winchester city centre with board games, D&D nights and Warhammer tournaments, plus a Christmas party menu.
This is a café, bar and tabletop games shop rolled into one, so you can turn up, order a coffee or a beer, and pick something off the in-house board game library without owning a single dice. If your group is more into character sheets than Monopoly, there are regular Dungeons & Dragons and TTRPG evenings where a Mythic DM runs the session, and it's pitched at complete beginners as much as anyone who's been rolling twenties for years.
The events calendar is where it gets interesting: Warhammer Thursdays at £5, Wednesday Night Magic The Gathering also at £5, and pricier one-offs like the Reality Fracture Magic prerelease at £30. Riftbound Nexus Nights and a Trading Card Games Wednesday afternoon session sit in between at £6 each. None of these are turn-up-and-see events, booking is needed, so decide what you fancy before you go rather than on the day.
Christmas is clearly a big deal here. Packages start at £14.95 a head for three hours of board games with Prosecco and mince pies, climbing to £30.95 with food added and £34.95 for the Mythic Party Box option. Private group bookings are on offer too, which makes it a fair shout for an office Christmas do as much as a gaming group's usual night out.
Opening hours are generous through the week, 11am to 10pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 10pm on Saturday, though Sunday is a shorter 11am to 4pm and Monday it's shut. The café side means you're not relying on snacks from a vending machine either, there's a proper menu alongside the drinks.
