What it’s like

Small-group art classes in Leeds taking kids from first pencil marks to acrylics and watercolours.

This is a proper art class setup rather than a paint-a-plate-and-go session. Beginners start with pencil drawing and get to grips with crayons, while the intermediate group moves on to shading, proportions, oil pastels, watercolours and acrylics. Groups are kept small, usually 5 to 8 students, and teaching is pitched to each child's skill level and age rather than a one-size-fits-all lesson plan.

There's no pressure around grades here. The site is upfront that there are no formal certificates or competition prep, the aim is building a genuine love of art rather than churning out portfolio pieces. That's either exactly what you want for a fidgety 6-year-old or a slight downside if your teenager actually wants something to show for it on paper.

For a trial session you just need a drawing book, a pencil, an eraser and some crayons (Crayola gets a specific mention). Materials are included for regular classes, though special craft sessions or new techniques sometimes need extra bits provided on top. Miss a weekly session and you're only charged for what you attend, as long as you give 24 hours' notice, though classes at the Mabgate Mills city centre location are less flexible on cancelling pre-booked sessions.

Ages run from 3 up to teenagers, with online classes recommended from age 5 upwards. Regular classes pause over the summer holidays and pick back up from 7th September 2026, so that's one to note if you're hoping to start over the break.
