What it’s like
Pay and play a proper parkland course, with winter green fees from £55 and tee times released just a week ahead.
You're here to play golf: two courses, a double-ended grass driving range with a covered three-bay section, practice nets, a short game area and a nine-hole putting green. Kids start in the First Swing Academy for lessons, and there's a mentor scheme once they're into it. Thirteen tennis courts sit alongside, on mixed surfaces.
Green fees are winter rates from 19 October to 28 March: £90 on the High Course, £70 on the West, weekdays. Twilight from noon is £75 and £55, and they're honest that 18 holes isn't guaranteed that late. The fourball packages include coffee and bacon rolls, £320 on the High and £240 on the West. If the buggy is £55, that's roughly what you'd pay for a decent round elsewhere, so plenty of people walk or take a push trolley at £5.
Booking is the faff. Visitor tee times only open seven days ahead, with online bookings from 4pm six days out, so you can't plan a month ahead the way you would at a municipal. They ask you to arrive at least 40 minutes before your tee time, which is worth knowing if you're coming straight from work. A handicap certificate may be requested. Buggies, clubs, trolleys and shoes are all hire-only and subject to availability, so don't leave it to the morning. Proper golf attire is required on the course, no denim and no trainers.
The club sits in a Grade I listed 17th-century mansion, which is a grander clubhouse than most pay-and-play golfers are used to, and the six event spaces take birthdays, anniversaries and christenings, with three to six months' notice recommended. Christmas packages run to 200 guests with no membership needed, and winter golf days start at £96pp from November to December. Reception is open 9am to 5pm. Getting there by train is easy: the Metropolitan Line stops at Moor Park, a short walk from the club. If you're driving, put WD3 1QL into the sat-nav rather than WD3 1QN.

How much is a round?
£90 a head on the High Course and £70 on the West on weekdays through winter, or £75 and £55 from noon, when 18 holes isn't guaranteed. Fourballs with coffee and bacon rolls are £320 and £240.
Do we need to book, and how far ahead?
Visitor tee times only open seven days in advance, with online bookings from 4pm six days before. For a group golf day or a weekend slot, the club asks for three to six months' notice.
How early should we turn up?
They want you there at least 40 minutes before your tee time.
Can we hire clubs and a buggy?
Clubs are £40, a buggy £55, an electric trolley £15, a push trolley £5 and shoes £10. All of it depends on what's available, so sort it when you book rather than on the day.
Is there a dress code?
Proper golf attire on the course, so no denim and no trainers. The clubhouse is smart casual, and they give detailed guidance when you book.
What if it rains?
Golf goes ahead in most weather. If the Course Manager decides the courses are unplayable, lightning or heavy snow, they'll work with you on a new date.
Can children play or learn?
There's a First Swing Academy for lessons and training, plus a mentor scheme. There's also a nine-hole putting green, practice nets and a short game area if you want to start them gently.
Is there anything besides golf?
Thirteen tennis courts on mixed surfaces, and a double-ended grass driving range with a three-bay covered section for when it's tipping down.
Can we hold a party or a golf day there?
The Grade I listed mansion has six event spaces for birthdays, anniversaries and christenings, and they suggest three to six months' notice. Winter golf days start at £96pp from November to December.
Do we have to be members?
No. Visitor tee times are open to anyone, and the Christmas packages for up to 200 guests don't need a membership either.
Is it easy to get to without a car?
The Metropolitan Line runs direct to Moor Park Underground Station, a short distance from the club.
Any tips for driving there?
Use WD3 1QL for the sat-nav, not WD3 1QN. Reception is open 9am to 5pm.
