What it’s like
One to one drum lessons on Roland V Drums, with exam routes, band sessions and even drum therapy on the timetable.
This is a proper drum school rather than a quick bash on a kit in the corner of a music shop. Lessons happen on Roland V Drums, the site calls them ultra high end, and sessions cover sight reading and song technique alongside the sticks-and-rhythm basics. If your child fancies something to work towards, there's a path to RSL Drum Exam qualifications, and once they've got some confidence there are ensemble sessions where they play alongside other musicians rather than just along to a click track.
There's also Djembe and Cajon sessions if drum kit isn't quite the thing, and drum therapy sessions too, which is a nice option if your child processes things better through rhythm than through talking. Sessions come in 30 or 60 minutes, in person or online, so you can start small and see how it goes before committing to the full hour.
In person 30 minutes is £15, an hour is £30, and online video sessions run a bit cheaper at £10 for 20 minutes or £15 for 30. The first 30 minute session is free, which makes it an easy one to try before you decide whether to book a regular slot. Booking's needed in advance, and there's a 24 hour cancellation policy, so if Tuesday afternoon clashes with a last minute change of plans you'll want to give them notice or risk being charged.
Parking's free onsite with a dedicated bay for the school, which takes the faff out of finding somewhere to leave the car before a lesson. There are toilets and wifi on site too, useful if you're waiting through a session rather than dropping off and coming back.
