What it’s like
A £2.50 drop-in play session on weekday mornings, plus toy borrowing for £7 a year and free tea and coffee on Wednesdays.
Stay and Play is the main reason to put your shoes on: a drop-in session with Little Herts that runs weekly from 4 November, 10.15 to 11.45. That's 90 minutes, and £2.50 a go. For a baby or a toddler who just wants soft things and other small people to look at, that's a fair morning out, especially as you don't have to commit to a term.
The Toy Library is the bit worth knowing about. Membership is £7 for the year and you can borrow everything from puzzles and games up to big items for parties, which is the clever answer to a birthday you're hosting yourself. It opens on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, 9.30 to 11, so check which Wednesday you're in before you set off. Alongside that there's Baby Sensory and Sing and Sign classes (Sing and Sign Stage 1 is currently sold out), children's classes, Noble's Gym Club, and a half term camp mixing singing, dancing and drama with arts and crafts.
Food is simple and genuinely cheap. Mill End Café opens on Wednesday mornings and the tea and coffee are free for anyone in the building, so a Wednesday gets you the café and the Toy Library in one trip. There's also an outdoor play area if the weather behaves, and the centre itself has full disabled access and an on-site car park.
Parties are the other thing they do well: three halls, a licensed bar, a kitchen and the car park, so you can book the lot and not move the whole thing to a village hall. Watch the calendar if you're going in December. Stay and Play doesn't run on 23 or 30 December, and the centre reopens on 7 January 2026 after the festive break, with the office back on 5 January.
