York

What it’s like

A walk-in bar on Micklegate for live music and gigs, open late most days, no table bookings.

This is a live music bar rather than a sit-down venue, so the whole thing runs on walk-ups. There's no table booking system here, which means you turn up and take a seat if one's free, or you don't. That's a bit of a faff if you're set on a particular spot for a gig night, but it also means you can just decide on a whim to head down.

Hours stretch out nicely: Tuesday to Thursday it opens at 4pm and runs to midnight, and from Friday through Sunday it opens much earlier at 11am, also running until midnight. That gives you room for an afternoon visit or a late one, depending on what you're after.

Given it's a live music and gigs spot, this reads as one for the adults in the group rather than a family stop on Micklegate. If you're passing through York and fancy catching a set without needing to plan ahead, the open-door approach works in your favour, though it's worth remembering that on a busy night, no booking also means no guarantee of a seat.

Plan your visit

Can we book a table?

No table bookings here, it's walk-ins only and seating depends on what's free when you arrive.

What are the opening hours?

Tuesday to Thursday it's 4pm to midnight. Friday to Sunday it opens earlier, from 11am, and still runs to midnight.

Is it open during the day?

Only at weekends really, since it opens at 11am Friday through Sunday. On weekdays it doesn't open until 4pm.

Do we need to arrive early to get a seat?

Given there's no booking, turning up earlier in the evening gives you a better shot at a seat before it fills up.
