What it’s like
Nature trails, a walled garden and an outdoor holiday club for 7 to 11s, though the Hall itself is wrapped in scaffolding just now.
The Hall is closed for conservation work at the moment, scaffolding and all, so this is really a garden and grounds visit rather than a house tour. That's fine if you come prepared for it: the gardens, walled garden and nature trails are the main event, with a playground for kids to dip into between wandering.
The Mannington Minnows sessions are aimed squarely at 7 to 11 year olds, outdoor nature exploration and activities rather than anything structured indoors. Younger children can still enjoy the playground and walled garden, but the organised activity has a clear age band, so a toddler is really just along for the walk.
Paths are a mix of gravel and grass, which the site is upfront about being tough going for manual wheelchairs, though there's an accessible boardwalk out to the bird hide and accessible parking near the gardens and café. Dogs are welcome on leads in the gardens and café too, with water bowls and shade laid on.
It only opens Wednesday to Sunday, March to October, 10am to 4pm, and booking is required, so this isn't a spontaneous turn-up. The café covers lunch across those same hours, and there's a picnic area if you'd rather bring your own and make a full afternoon of the grounds.
