What it’s like

A science party that comes to you, with slime, bouncy balls and a big final experiment to send everyone home buzzing.

This isn't a venue you visit, it's a party that turns up at yours. Mad Science bring the demonstrations, the lab coats and the mess to your own party room, and the kids leave with the stuff they've made rather than just a slice of cake. Expect slime, bouncy balls, crystal gardens and paper aeroplanes as the hands-on bits, all building up to what they call the Big Final Experiment, which sounds like exactly the sort of thing a ten-year-old will describe in detail for a week afterwards.

There are two formats. Science Blast is an hour long and starts at £270 for up to 15 children, while Mega Science Lab runs a full two hours from £320. Both scale up to 45 children, with the price climbing in steps as the numbers do, so a big class party for 45 on the Mega Lab will set you back £440. That's a proper outlay for a birthday party, but you're not hiring a hall or sorting activities yourself, and lab coats plus an e-vite are thrown in.

Because it's a party format rather than a drop-in centre, there's no site to wander round and no session times to plan your day against. You're booking a slot for your own party and letting the scientists take over the room for an hour or two. The trade-off is you need the space to host it in the first place, whether that's your living room, a hired hall or a school setting.

For younger ones the take-home crafts probably land better than the demonstrations, and for older kids it's the Big Final Experiment and the science-y explanations that'll stick. Either way it's built entirely around the party, so it makes most sense if you're already planning a birthday and want something with a bit more spectacle than pass the parcel.

Plan your visit

How much does a party cost?

Science Blast starts at £270 for up to 15 children and Mega Science Lab starts at £320. Both go up in steps as guest numbers rise, topping out at £390 and £440 for 45 children.

What's the difference between the two party types?

Science Blast is an hour of demonstrations and activities. Mega Science Lab is the same idea stretched to two hours, so more time for the hands-on bits.

What do the kids actually do?

They watch science demonstrations and make things to take home, including slime, bouncy balls, crystal gardens and paper aeroplanes. It all builds to a Big Final Experiment at the end.

Do we need our own venue?

Yes, this is a party that comes to you rather than a place you visit, so you'll need somewhere to host it, whether that's home, a hired hall or a school.

Do the kids get anything to keep?

The take-home activities are theirs to keep, and the party includes lab coats and an e-vite to send out beforehand.
