What it’s like
A half-kilometre miniature train ride round a track near Knutsford, with a play area and a keep-your-ticket deal to go round again for a pound.
The whole visit is built around one thing: a miniature train that loops a half-kilometre circular track. It's £3 a ride, and if you hang on to your ticket you can go again for just £1, which is the sort of detail that turns a quick visit into an hour of "one more go".
Once the novelty of the train wears off a bit, there's a children's play area to fall back on, open from February half term through to October half term. Winter's a different story: the playground shuts, and midweek opening stops too while they get on with track maintenance and relay work, so outside of Jan-Feb half term weekends it's Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30am to 4pm. Summer holidays are the exception, with six weeks of daily opening, which is worth planning round if you want flexibility.
There's a restaurant on site and a picnic area if you'd rather bring your own, plus free parking so you're not stinging twice over. Assistance dogs are welcome in the restaurant, and other dogs may be allowed elsewhere on site if you're bringing one along. It's an outdoor day out through and through, no shelter from the weather beyond what the restaurant offers, so a dry forecast makes a difference here.
Santa makes a seasonal appearance too, at £5 a visit, which is a nice one to keep in your back pocket for December plans.
