What it’s like
Free wheels park for skateboards, blades and BMX, plus a big adventure play park and sand pit right next door.
The skate bowl and ramps are the main event here, and there's no charge to use them, so it's an easy one to just turn up to on a whim. BMX riders, skateboarders and rollerbladers all share the space, which means it can get lively on a dry weekend, but there's enough room that a nervous first-timer isn't going to be in anyone's way for long.
Next to the wheels park there's a large adventure play park and a proper sand pit, which is really where the younger kids in the group will end up spending most of their time while the older ones are off doing tricks. Between April and September there's a splash pad running too, open every day until 5pm, so pack a spare set of clothes if the sun's out.
The play park hours shift with the seasons, shorter days in winter (10am to 4pm) and a longer 10am to 6pm stretch through the summer months. There's no dedicated car park, which is the one real faff of the place. The Beach Hut Cafe is open daily until half four for food and a sit down, and quiet dogs are allowed in with you.
Thursday and Sunday mornings from 9.30 to 10.30 are set aside as inclusive settling sessions for disabled children with restricted access, so if that's relevant to your family it's worth building into the plan. Otherwise it's a straightforward free visit: bring scooters, boards or bikes, let the little ones loose in the sand pit, and stay for a coffee before you head off.
