What it’s like

Four levels of frame, an Astra slide and a giant spiral to climb through, with a fenced-off patch for babies and toddlers.

The main frame is four levels of nets, tunnels and slides, and the 4-lane Astra slide plus the giant spiral are the bits an eight-year-old will drag you back to see twice. There's a twin-lane wavy slide too, and a sports area if the climbing frame doesn't tire them out. Under-fives get their own toddler area with a slide, and there's a separate baby area for the ones too small for any of it, so a family with a wide age gap isn't stuck in one corner all day.

Prices step up with age: £1 for under-ones, £5.75 for one to four year olds, £7.75 for five to elevens. Toddler Time runs on school days from 9.30am to 3pm at the same £5.75 and throws in a tea or coffee for you and a squash for your toddler, which is a nice touch if you're doing a weekday visit anyway. Socks are compulsory and shoes aren't allowed on the equipment, so pack a spare pair if anyone's forgotten theirs.

You don't need to book for a normal visit, you can just turn up, though play time gets capped at two hours when it's busy, weekends and half-term especially. Parking is free with 82 spaces on site, which takes the sting out of a spontaneous trip. The café does hot and cold food with hand-made coffee, last hot food orders at 5.30pm, and last admission is also 5.30pm even though the doors stay open until 6.30pm.

Parties run as Play and Eat packages, £7.65 a head for under-fives and £9.65 for five and over, or you can hire the whole place privately for £245. Tables can't be reserved unless you're having a party, so if you want to guarantee a spot on a busy Saturday, that's the way to do it.
