What it’s like
Themed escape rooms where you solve riddles and puzzles together against the clock, from a magic shop mystery to a submarine reactor meltdown.
You get 60 minutes locked in a themed room with your group, working through puzzles and riddles to reach the objective before time runs out. The Magic Emporium has you piecing together the mystery of Mrs Garbo's shop, Witchcraft & Wizardry has riddles and potion-making, and if your crew fancies something with higher stakes there's a nuclear submarine room where you're racing to stop a reactor meltdown, or a lab sabotage to untangle in Save the City.
The listed minimum age is 2, but any group with under-12s must have an adult in the room counted as a participant, so this isn't a drop-and-wait activity for younger children. It suits families who want to actually work the puzzles together rather than watch from the side, and a nine or ten-year-old who likes a mystery will probably end up running the show.
Booking is required, and you're asked to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early for check-in, which matters more here than at most places since a late arrival eats into your hour. Term time hours are shorter and the venue is shut on Mondays and Tuesdays then, so holiday visits give you more flexibility on timing. One thing to flag: cancel within 72 hours of your slot and you won't get a refund, so it's worth being sure of the date before you book.
Group bookings can include food or a party host, which makes it a reasonably straightforward option for a birthday if you've got a group of older kids who fancy a challenge rather than a bouncy castle.
