What it’s like
Ride miniature trains round a five-acre lake, then loop through a maze and crazy golf on the same ticket.
The big draw here is the railway: one-eighth scale miniature locomotives that trundle almost a mile round the country park, past a five-acre lake with its own bit of nature and wildlife to spot. Each journey is only about five minutes, but trains leave every ten minutes, so you're not stood about waiting long between rides, and little legs get a proper sit-down while you circle the water.
Once you're off the train there's a fair bit else to fill an afternoon. Crazy golf and Grandma's Garden maze suit the sevens-and-ups who want to wander off a bit, while the adventure playground and a separate play area for under fives split the ages sensibly so nobody's dodging bigger kids on the equipment. It adds up to a half-day rather than a quick stop, especially if you let them do a few laps on the train.
Entry is £13.95 for anyone three and up, adults included, which feels steep for what's mostly a train ride and a playground, though under threes go free and parking doesn't cost extra. If you fancy a second lap later, extra train journeys are £1.50 a person on top. The Railway Café does hot and cold food, with Station Snacks at peak times if you just need something quick between rides.
Booking's required, so this isn't a turn-up-on-a-whim visit. There's no organised party package either, though they'll let a group bring their own food in and knock 10% off admission for fifteen or more, which is worth knowing if you're planning a birthday gathering rather than expecting cake and games laid on.
